Archer Broughton is currently Deputy Director of the Department of Cardiovascular Medicine and Head of the Cardiac Catheterisation Laboratories at the Alfred Hospital, Melbourne.
He did his basic cardiology training at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in Sydney before moving to the Baker Institute to study the effects of LV hypertrophy on canine myocardial function under Prof Paul Korner. He has worked as full-time cardiologist at The Alfred since 1987. He also has visiting rights at Cabrini hospital where he has a regular session for device implantations.
